What is digital solar?
Digital solar lets you benefit from solar without installing anything. Instead of panels on your roof, you reserve capacity in a real solar plant, and the power it generates becomes energy credits. It is built for the many homes and businesses that cannot install rooftop solar: renters, flats and apartments, shops and showrooms without a suitable roof, or anyone short on space or permissions.
But the electricity is not coming to my house?
That is right, and it does not need to. The power the plant produces is sold to the government, not routed to your home. You keep your existing electricity connection exactly as it is. What reaches you is the value your reserved capacity generates, as credits in your wallet, which come off your bill.

The plant sells all its power to the government under a long-term, fixed-price contract. That is what makes your credits dependable: the plant has a guaranteed buyer for every unit it produces.
The energy your reserved capacity produces is turned into credits in your GridShare wallet. One credit is worth £1. Those credits come off your electricity bill.
Where do the
credits come from?
From GridShare's own solar capacity. Credits arrive in your wallet each day, based on what your reserved capacity produces, one credit worth £1. A few credits each day add up across the month. You then spend them on your electricity bill.
Energy credits are different from carbon or green credits.
How do I use my credits?
You pay your electricity bill through GridShare, and your available credits are applied against the amount due. You top up any remaining balance in the same step, by card or bank transfer, and GridShare pays your full bill to your provider. Your whole bill is handled in one place. Credits are added to your wallet regularly, and anything unused simply carries forward.
How many credits will I get?
It depends on how much capacity you reserve and how much sunlight the plant receives. More reserved capacity means more credits, added daily based on actual generation. The best way to see your own number is to start from your real bill.

Do I need permission from
my electricity provider?
No. No rooftop, no meter changes, no paperwork on your side. You keep your existing connection exactly as it is.
What happens in winter?
Unlike rooftop panels in the UK, your capacity sits in a high-sunshine solar plant, so its output stays strong through the winter months. That matters, because winter is also when your household uses the most power. Our plant tends to produce the most when you need it most. And because credits are planned on an annual-average basis, any surplus carries forward to cover the leaner months, so a quieter month is planned for, not a shortfall.
GridShare secures 75% of the plant's P90 generation. If output falls below that level, the shortfall is made good in credits.
